16th December 2024. Suddenly at his home, Hollytree Hill, Cross Lane, Magheragall, aged 72 years. Retired principal of Lisburn College.

Beloved husband of Eileen. Loving and much loved father to Kirsty, Michael and Alex. Dearly loved son of Tom and Jean.

A service of thanksgiving will be held in All Saint’s Church, Eglantine on Friday 20th December at 1.30pm; followed by burial at Lisburn New Cemetery Blaris.

House strictly private.

No flowers please. Donations, if desired, online via www.ronniethompson.co.uk or cheques payable to The British Red Cross c/o Ronnie Thompson Funeral Directors, 20 Ballinderry Road, Lisburn, BT28 1UF.

Will be lovingly remembered and very sadly missed by his sorrowing wife, daughter, sons, parents and wider family circle.

Deepest sympathy Eileen and family. My late husband John Wilson (Professor) collaborated, via his Ulster Scot’s Institute, with Alister at Ulster Scot conferences and considered him a dear friend. I have happy memories of being with them both at a conference in Georgia some years ago. It was something to hear them together, discussing, joking and a lot of laughter. Our family empathises with your family’s grief and sorrow, as John passed last January. We understand how difficult it is to lose, not only a husband, father and grandfather but also a huge figure within their respective fields. I have fond memories of Alister offering one of your home grown Christmas trees each year. The last message Alister sent to John was an Ulster Scot’s piper rendition of the traditional lament ‘Flowers of the Forest’ . Very moving.
