Baby Aoife McHugh

Bernard and Claire McHugh, Samsonagh Boho, would like to acknowledge the many expressions of sympathy and gestures of kindness shown to us following the sad loss of our beloved daughter Aoife McHugh, who was born sleeping, 23rd June 2023.

We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to all of our family, friends, work colleagues and community for all of the cards, phone calls, flowers and messages of condolence that we received.

We would like to express our deepest gratitude to the maternity team in Altnagelvin Hospital, in particular, Dr Jackie Cartmill OBGYN and Dr Kevin Glackin OBGYN, for the outstanding medical care provided to us over a six month period. Heartfelt thanks to the wonderful midwives there who provided our family with compassion, kindness and understanding at one of the most difficult times of our lives. We are grateful to them for helping to deliver our daughters Niamh and Aoife.

Gratitude is also extended to Professor Asma Khalil and her team of doctors and midwives of St. George's Hospital, London for the extraordinary medical care provided. This care saved the life of our other daughter Niamh - Aoife's twin sister, for which we will be eternally indebted. There are truly no words to describe our depth of gratitude.

Furthermore we would like to thank Dr Manuela Heim OBGYN in the Royal Jubilee Maternity Hospital Belfast, for the time we spent there under her care.

We would also like to take the opportunity to thank Melissa Crockett, the bereavement midwife for the western health trust and the SANDS NI charity, both of whom took excellent care of our two daughters and provided invaluable advice, treated us with compassion and gave comfort. In particular we are thankful to both for helping us create memories of our family and providing a carrycot and coffin for Aoife.

We would like to extend our thanks as well to the team in SWAH, who provided additional scans in and out of hours as well as a cooling cot, which allowed us to spend time with Aoife at home.

We would like to thank undertaker Dessie McKenzie for offering us advice and information regarding burial. A special word of thanks also to Father Cathal Deery, for providing pastoral support and conducting a beautiful funeral service.

We take great comfort in knowing that our beautiful darling Aoife is buried alongside her dear grandmother Eileen, in Boho graveyard.

As it would be impossible to thank everyone individually, please accept this acknowledgement as a gesture of our family’s deepest gratitude.

Have you considered?
