Barbara was a wonderful neighbour and friend to our family. She was kind, thoughtful, patient and had a great sense of humour. Barbara named our local fox ( known for capsizing food waste bins and raiding and devouring delivered eggs) Brian- much to the delight of the children and the amusement of the adults.
When Barbara saw a need, she went out of her way to do something about it. It’s thanks to Barbara’s “guerrilla gardening”, that Kate’s beautiful, wild , magical garden came into being- we will always be grateful to Barbara for sharing and passing on her love of gardening and nature with us.
We will sorely miss seeing Barbara around- lighting up our lives with her happy, smiling face and acts of kindness. The memories that she has left, for those of us fortunate enough to have known her, will live on. Monday 23 September 2024 Fiona, Kate, Oscar and Archie- Colinton, Edinburgh.

Barbara was a dedicated and effective Chair of the Cockburn Association and will be greatly missed. At this sad time, the words of Voltaire on the death of his friend and mentor the Marquise de Pompadour come to mind. "It seems absurd that, while an ancient pen-pusher hardly able to walk should still be alive, a beautiful woman in the midst of a splendid career should die so young. Born sincere, she had righteousness in her soul and justice in her heart; these things are not to be met every day." Sunday 22 September 2024 Michael Nevin, Edinburgh
