Gill and I were very sad to learn of John's untimely passing, while visiting our son, Andrew, who lives and works in Perth, Western Australia.
I have very fond and happy memories of John as one of a close knit group of friends during our formative teenage years at Larne grammar school.
Though probably true to say that neither of us would be remembered for outstanding academic achievement, these were certainly interesting times when we shared many adventures and occasional amusing scrapes together.
Typically, these evoke memories of cycling to school together, boating on Larne Lough, motor bike excursions across NI and Donegal, wild camping on Islandmagee and in the Mourne Mountains (often trying to tune in to Radio Caroline around a campfire), meeting up to listen to the latest Rolling Stone or Dylan album releases, etc - all very nostalgic 1960s experiences.
Although our lives and work etc took us our separate ways in later years, we were always pleased to remain in touch - keeping each other up to date on our family lives and mutual friendships.
While, regrettably, we will not be able to attend John's funeral in person today, our thoughts and prayers are with Sharon and all the family at this very sad time.

Our Hearts go out to Sharon and family during this difficult time.
John's brother Lowry and I introduced Sharon and John to each other, from their marriage came two great sons Ciaran and Conor, two lovely grandsons Ben and Luke. John and Sharon shared many great adventures and were in and out our lives and the lives of our children for all of it. John had a light that shone from within, kind and loving in nature. His taste in music was infectious and influenced us all. You may be physically gone from here, but your smile, your sense of humour, your energy lives on in us all and we are indebted to you as we are all the better for it.
Thoughts and prayers are with you all.
