The death has occurred of:
John Murphy
John Murphy late of 13 Rossview, Lisnaskea and formally 22 Rosnarick Close, Derrygonnelly, Co Fermanagh.
31st December 2024
We, the family of the late John Murphy, wish to express our heartfelt gratitude and
appreciation to all who supported us during our recent bereavement. We are deeply thankful
to those who paid their respects in so many ways, including sending Mass and sympathy
cards, flowers, and messages of condolence via social media and online, making phone
calls, attending the wake, and joining us for the funeral. Your support brought us great
comfort in a very difficult time.
We would like to extend our special thanks to the large crowd of friends, teammates, and
match officials of John’s who lined the route at both removals, particularly members and
officials of Lisnaskea Emmetts, Derrygonnelly Harps GAC, and Fermanagh GAA and LGFA.
We were also touched by the large number of people who attended the funeral Mass,
whether in person or online, and all who formed the guard of honour on the morning of
John’s funeral. To those who travelled long distances to be with us and offer condolences,
your kindness will never be forgotten.
A special thank you to Monaghan Brothers Lisnaskea for kindly donating buses to facilitate
travel arrangements during the wake, and to Lisnaskea Emmetts for providing parking
facilities and stewarding. We are also grateful to Derrygonnelly Harps for opening their
clubrooms for John’s wake in Derrygonnelly, a place he held dearly in his heart. The
refreshments and stewarding provided during this time were very much appreciated.
We also wish to thank our family, friends, neighbours, and local businesses who brought
food and refreshments to the wake. Our gratitude extends to Fr Cathal Deery and Fr Brian
Darcy for celebrating John’s beautiful and heartfelt funeral Mass, and to all those who took
part in the liturgy. A special word of thanks goes to Adrian and Stephen McGurn and Karina
Thomas for their beautiful music and singing, which added so much to the ceremony.
Our thanks also go to funeral director Leeanne McGovern, along with Rian and Pat, for their
dignified and compassionate handling of the arrangements. We are grateful to Canon Jimmy
McPhillips and Fr Deery for their spiritual support to John during his illness. The team of
volunteers deserve our heartfelt thanks for providing refreshments after the funeral in
Derrygonnelly Community Centre.
A special acknowledgement is due to the oncology team, nurses, and staff who cared for
John in Northwest Cancer Centre during his illness. Our thanks also go to the District
Nurses, palliative care team, doctors, and staff at both Derrygonnelly Surgery and Maple
Health Centre, as well as the pharmacists, for their exceptional care and assistance. We
would also like to thank the staff at Omagh Palliative Care Ward who provided attentive care
to John during his final days. To all who made donations to the Omagh Palliative Ward and
Northwest Cancer in lieu of flowers, we are profoundly grateful.
As it is impossible to thank everyone individually, we hope this acknowledgement will be
accepted as a token of our appreciation and gratitude. The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass will be
offered for your intentions.
John’s Month’s Mind will be celebrated on Sunday, 2nd February, at 11:30 am in St Patrick’s
Church, Derrygonnelly.
John was greatly loved and will be missed every day. May his gentle and generous soul be
granted peace and eternal rest.
