The death has occurred of:
Mary DOHERTY (née Moss)
DOHERTY
(nee Moss)
20th June 2024
Originally from Garvagh outside Castlederg. Mum, the eldest daughter in a family of nine, would reminisce about her childhood days, chores on the farm and caring for the younger children. She shared stories of both fun times and hardships in her life, the resilience she developed during these years no doubt helped carry her through hard times when rearing us as a family. In turn, we appreciated everything we had. Mum never shied away from hard work, she would roll up her sleeves and help others in their time of need. Whilst mainly a housewife, in later years Mum worked as a Catering Assistant in the Royal Arms Hotel, County Hall canteen and the kitchens of Gortmore Home and Day Centre. Many people paid tribute saying that Mum was such a, ‘kind lady’. She was indeed a caring, kind, helpful person for whom family was everything. She was so proud of ourselves as one big family. Mum and our late Dad, John enjoyed life to the full, dancing and visiting friends. Our parents ensured that everyone was made welcome in our home, people were people first, other factors were secondary. No one ever left hungry nor without a cup of tea. We have said farewell to a lady who was full of devilment and craic, which in turn has left us with an ocean of memories. A lady who had a great sense of occasion, adored new babies, loved flowers, cards and the Robin in the garden. Her passing will leave a huge gap in the lives of so many. She was a dearly loved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, mother-in-law, sister-in-law, aunt, godmother, neighbour and friend.
“When someone you love becomes a memory,
That memory becomes a treasure.”
A NOTE OF THANKS FROM THE DOHERTY FAMILY.
Mary’s daughter, sons and entire family circle would like to express their sincere thanks to all those who kept us in their prayers during Mum’s final days and over the past few weeks with the added passing of Mum’s brother, Charlie Moss, RIP.
Our sincere thanks to everyone who helped us as a family to provide the care which Mum received at home over this past few years when her health and ability was depleted, the Care Agencies for their compassion and friendship, Helen in McGread’s Pharmacy, District Nursing team and Social Worker. Our deepest gratitude to Dr Siobhan Green and all the staff at Newtownstewart Medical Centre for their attentiveness. Thank you to Alison, (Marie Curie) who cared with such tenderness to Mum on her last night.
As a family we are so blessed to have many wonderful people in our circle who are willing to give generously of their time to prepare for the wake, provide hospitality and supporting us in so many ways. We gained so much comfort from the large number of people, from near and far, who attended Mum’s wake. Many of you brought gifts and food – thank you. Special mention to Mullaghmore Bakery, The Mellon Country Inn, McBride’s Catering. Appreciation to Killeter Heritage Centre for the loan of items for the wake.
Deepest thanks to all for the many messages of sympathy and support, through cards or via social media, each one meant so much. Thanks to all who gave donations to Air Ambulance.
Appreciation to Fr Hasson for Mum’s spiritual support and to Fr Arkinson and Fr Gilmore for their attendance during the wake.
Special thanks to Fr Eugene Hasson for officiating at Mum’s Requiem Mass and to Fr Paul Fraser, Aghyaran for concelebrating on the day. Fr Hasson’s spiritual homily brought focus to Mum’s sense of family, her compassion and generosity. The touching music and hymns from Louise Kirwan and Marie Campbell certainly added a special touch. Thanks also to Declan, Sacristan and the Eucharistic Ministers. Granny Mary would have been delighted with the roles played by all during the mass and the funeral as a whole.
Our thanks and appreciation to all those who attended the funeral or joined via the webcam. Deepest gratitude is expressed to Charlie and Liam who prepared our mother’s final resting place and Alana at, The Bloom Room for the lovely floral tributes. Thanks to Lauren McCullagh, accordionist for the beautiful graveside music and to Carol for her heartfelt poem. Appreciation to all at St. Joseph’s Hall and McBride’s Catering who provided the welcoming lunch after the burial.
Thanks are extended from the family to Mr Charles Lynch (Funeral Director) for the dignified service provided by Martin Donnelly and himself. Charlie’s guidance, thoughtful organisation, and attention to detail at this sensitive time, was sincerely appreciated.
