Latest Sympathy Notices

Eileen and I extend our deepest condolences to Eileen, Aisling, Niamh, and all Fabian’s many family and friends. As far as I am concerned there are never too many tributes to a great friend and humanitarian like Professor Fabian Monds. He was tolerant, modest, and always had an abundance of good humor that everyone who encountered him delighted in. His unassuming humility and loyalty was such that we will never see the likes of him again.
We have known Fabian and Eileen and their family for almost 15 years now and admired them greatly. We treasured their friendship and will forever recall our times together at their homes both in Fahan and in Derry. The Fahan / Derry Community has lost a gentleman whose death really does ( at least for some of us ) mark the end of an era. Upon learning of his passing we talked at length about Fabian and how he helped a lot of people and was an exceptional man whose kindness and generosity will never be forgotten. Many lives are richer because of Professor Fabin Monds presence. His influence left an indelible and profound mark on all who encountered him. He was a man known personally to many of us but known only by reputation to even more. When Fabian and Eileen last visited our home a couple of months ago he was still a man full of repose, so rich with life. He still had that certain aura about him a calmness that people recognize as coming only from being a deeply prayerful person. So worthy of imitation.
Fabian had a great sense of humor yet his humor was never mean spirited, nor designed to hurt or humiliate. Fabian loved a good joke, especially political jokes, yet his humor was never mean spirited. One relative of mine once remarked that Professor Monds once gave him a bit of very good advice “Don’t take that sleeping pill and the laxative on the same night. ”A much respected gentleman, rest now in divine tranquility. Many thoughts also come from your beloved Figary and may the refreshing mist of Lough Swilly and the aroma of Donegal sweeten your eternal sleep.
Eileen and family please know that you all will be in our prayers and in our hearts.

God Bless,
Eileen and Martin Rooney

Rest in peace Fabian. You were a real gentleman, an amazing influencer and a pioneer of widening access before it became popular. You touched the hearts of many and will be remembered by all those who had the privilege to call you friend.
Time slips past but memories last. Saturday 15 November 2025 Barbara, Carol and Eileen.
