The family of the late Danny Gallen, who passed away on 11th July 2026 wish to express sincere gratitude for the love and support shown to them on their recent sad loss. The beloved husband of the late Susan, Danny is sorely missed by his children Paul, Fiona, Louise and Donal, son in law Michael and daughters in law Michelle and Sinéad and his grandchildren Matthew, Oscar, Áoibhe, Enya, Fionn, Daré, Senán and Cúan. Danny was also a dearly loved brother to sisters Mary, Sara and Anna, and was predeceased by his sister Bridie and brother John. He was also an uncle, a cousin, a neighbour, and a friend to many.
Our thanks to all those who helped prepare the home, travelled from near and far to attend the wake and funeral, sent flowers, cards, or messages of sympathy, provided food, and brought other thoughtful gifts.
We would also like to thank family, neighbours and friends who worked tirelessly at home providing refreshments and outside preparing the fields for and managing the car parking. It was comforting to see that Dad was so well thought of, and we are eternally grateful that he was always surrounded by such a supportive community.
Our heartfelt thanks to Father Thomas Canning and Father John Gilmore for their words of comfort at the wake and to Monsignor Andy Dolan and Father Joe McMenamin who along with them con-celebrated a beautiful and meaningful funeral mass. We would also like to thank Father Paul Fraser and Father Peter McCawille for their spiritual support and for visiting Dad at home during his illness.
Our sincere thanks to all those who participated in Dad’s requiem mass. To Aranderg CCE for organising a guard of honour at the funeral and to the Philbin family who performed beautifully in Ballymongan, at the mass and at the graveside. Dad had a life-long passion for traditional Irish music, and we are grateful for these truly fitting tributes.
Our thanks also to family and friends who read and brought up the gifts, to the eucharistic ministers including Colette who visited Dad weekly and brought him communion at home, to the sacristans Veronica and Danny, to Charles Lynch the funeral director for his professionalism, to Aghyaran St Davog’s GAC for the use of the centre and preparing food & refreshments after the funeral mass and particularly to family and friends entrusted with preparing Dad’s final resting place with such care and respect.
We as a family are indebted to the medical and nursing staff in the Oncology Department of Altnagelvin Hospital including Doctor Bryson and the link nurses, for their invaluable support. We are also appreciative of the Healthcare professionals who visited and cared for Dad at home including Dr Gallagher and Dr Haire, the district nurses, the palliative care team, and the staff at Castlederg Group Surgery and Donaghy’s chemist for all their help and support during Dad’s illness.
Many thanks to all those neighbours, family and friends who came to “céili” Dad and shared stories, old photographs, and tunes. Dad enjoyed these visits and they made his final year a memorable one.
A special word of thanks to those who helped us to care for Dad at home, particularly the kind and professional staff from North West Care and Glen Caring who became good friends to Dad and our family during a difficult time. We would not have been able to do it without them.
We are also very grateful to Emma from Care for Cancer whose regular reflexology visits supported Dad’s overall wellbeing.
It is impossible to thank everyone but please accept this as an acknowledgement of our sincere appreciation to anyone who provided support in any way. Go raibh maith agaibh go léir.
Dad’s Month Mind Mass will be celebrated in St Patrick’s church Aghyaran on Saturday 22nd August at 7.30pm and can also be viewed on the webcam.
