Frances Doherty née Coyle

Died - 2nd January 2026

We, the family of the late Frances Doherty (née Coyle), wish to extend our heartfelt thanks and sincere appreciation to the wider community, and to everyone who offered kind words, best wishes, prayers and thoughtful support during our recent and heartbreaking loss.

Beloved wife of Seamus, cherished mother of Cahill and Leanne, loving mother-in-law to Stephen, and adored grandmother to Ethan, Dylan, Finlay, Riley, Lola and Lochlin, and great-grandmother to Cai. Much-loved by her beloved dog Patches, who brought her so much joy.

Much-loved daughter of her devoted mother Mary Ellen and her late father Don. Dear sister and sister-in-law to Damien, Paula and family; Ryan, Brid and family; the late Donald; Margaret and family. Cherished sister-in-law to Gerald and Lauren and family, Josephine, Dalton and family. Seamus and all the family cant thank you enough for your support and generosity you've all shown to Frances, we are eternally grateful. And the support you continue to show.

Frances will be sadly missed by her devoted aunts and uncles who she loved very much, and her much-loved, cherished and adored cousins.

We cannot thank Frances’ cousins enough for everything they did from the night she took ill in the hospital to the morning Frances passed away — preparing the house, making tea, arranging flowers, and for the impeccable care and support shown by all her cousins and family, including Seamus’ and Frances’ nieces and nephews, and their husbands, wives and partners. Your kindness does not go unnoticed and will never be forgotten. Frances would be feeling so loved and blessed by each one of you.

Our heartfelt thanks to everyone who brought sandwiches, buns and food, and made tea, and in particular to The Sandwich Co. and The Magnet Bar, for their generosity and support at such a difficult time.

We wish to sincerely thank the staff at Altnagelvin Hospital, especially Margaret and her team in the Podiatry Clinic, and the doctors and nurses in A&E on the night Frances took unwell. You showed such grace, compassion and comfort to Frances and to us as a family, for which we will always be grateful.

We also extend our sincere thanks to Frances’ godchildren, her Scottish family, and all the family members who travelled, we truly appreciate every one of you.

To Leanne’s lifelong and her close circle of friends and cousins, who never left her side and are a constant support. Leanne is forever indebted.

Special thanks to St. Mary’s Slaughtmaus GAC, Stephen McShane, and Justin O’Connor for the use of vans for furniture removal and transport during and throughout the wake.

Our heartfelt thanks to Frances’ cousins and nephews for salting and clearing the roads, ensuring we could have Frances’ beautiful cortège walk from her home with her family and friends behind her with comfort and love.

Sincere thanks to Seamus’ and Leanne’s workplaces, Allpipe and HURT, and to their colleagues, friends and management for their understanding, compassion and support during this heartbreaking time.

Our sincerest thanks to Fr. Noel McDermott for such a beautiful sermon, which truly encapsulated Frances in herself and honoured her life so perfectly and also to Sr. Ben from Knock.

We also wish to thank the amazing singers and musicians Ciara, Ciaran and Ramon who truly gave Frances the beautiful send-off she deserved. Your voices were angelic and added such meaning and comfort to her final farewell and to the piper Willie Coffee who let her scottish heritage shine through.

Thank you to everyone who sent flowers, messages, texts, social media posts, and words of comfort. Every gesture meant more to us than words can express.

Finally, our sincerest thanks to Mr. Kieran Connor and all his staff at McClafferty Funeral Directors. Frances’ undeniably beautiful send-off was made possible by you and your team. The dignity, care and compassion shown ensured that Frances was laid to rest with such grace and beauty. We are truly and forever grateful.

We will miss you forever, Frances. Thank you to everyone who helped us honour her life with such dignity and love. We truly could not have got through this without you all.

Frances’ Month Mind Mass will take place on Saturday 31st January at 6:30pm in St. Mary’s Church, Tamnaherin. Everyone welcome.
