Acknowledgement

Bridie and the family of the late Gus Hastings wish to express their sincere thanks and heartfelt appreciation to everyone who offered their kindness, help and support during their recent bereavement.

We would particularly like to extend our deepest gratitude to the doctors and nursing staff of Ward 26, Altnagelvin Hospital, and the Accident & Emergency Department and Bridge Street medical for the exceptional care, kindness and compassion shown to Daddy during his time in their care. The dignity, respect and genuine concern with which he was treated meant so much to us as a family, and we will always be grateful for the outstanding care he received.

Our heartfelt thanks also go to everyone who helped us in so many ways during the wake. In particular, we would like to thank Jenny, Patricia, Michelle and Rachel for taking care of the teas and for being such an incredible support when it was needed most. We are equally grateful to everyone who brought food, gifts and refreshments. Your kindness, generosity, and the time and effort you gave so willingly eased a great burden on us and were appreciated more than words can express.

We would also like to thank everyone at Strathfoyle Community Association and the SDLP, organisations that Gus loved being part of, for their support throughout the wake and funeral, and for the many touching tributes paid to him both in person and through the media.

Our sincere thanks to Fr McDermott for the beautiful and personal celebration of the Funeral Mass. The warmth, kindness and personal touches in his homily captured Gus so perfectly and brought immense comfort to our family. We are deeply grateful for the care and thought he put into making Gus’s Mass so special. Thanks also to everyone who attended the Mass and to Fidelma McNamee for the beautiful music.

Finally, we wish to express our deepest gratitude to Kieran and everyone at W. J. O’Brien & Son Funeral Directors for the exceptional care, dignity and compassion shown to Gus and to our entire family from beginning to end. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and every detail was handled with the utmost professionalism and respect. Seeing him looking so peaceful and so like himself brought us great comfort at such a difficult time. The guidance, kindness and support shown to our family throughout were truly outstanding, and we will always be grateful for the care given to Gus on his final journey.

We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to the gravediggers for preparing the final resting place with such care and respect.

As it would be impossible to thank everyone individually, we hope this acknowledgement will be accepted as a sincere expression of our family's heartfelt gratitude to all who supported us, attended the wake and funeral, sent Mass or sympathy cards, flowers and messages, or showed kindness in any way. Your thoughtfulness, generosity and support throughout this difficult time have meant more to us than words can ever express.

Gus’s remembrance Mass will be celebrated in St Oliver Plunkett’s Chapel, Strathfoyle, on Saturday, 5th September at 8.00pm. Everyone welcome.

Sacred Heart of Jesus have mercy on his soul.
