A beloved husband, a devoted father and grandfather, a dear brother, father-in-law and friend - forever loved, and sadly missed.
I missed you quietly today,
no tears, no heaving sobs,
just the soft ache
that settles in my bones
when the world goes still.
It wasn't sadness, no exactly
... more like the memories of your laugh,
brushing past me,
leaving a warmth
I couldn't hold on to.
I thought about your grin,
the way it cracked open
even on the worst of days,
and for a moment, I wasn't grieving.
I was grateful ...
grateful to have known you,
to have stood close enough to the light you carried,
to feel it
And maybe that's what love is,
not the clinging,
not the despair,
but the quiet joy of remembering you were here.
