Month’s Mind / Acknowledgement
James Mc Monagle
Died: 28th July 2026
Theresa and family of the late James would like to express their sincere thanks and appreciation to everyone who offered their kindness, help and support.
We would particularly like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and nursing staff of Ward 41, Altnagelvin Hospital, and the Accident & Emergency Department, for the exceptional care, kindness and compassion shown to Daddy during the time he spent in their care. The kindness, dignity and genuine care with which he was treated meant so much to us as a family, and we will always be extremely grateful for the wonderful care he received.
We would also like to express our heartfelt thanks to Dr Mitchell and Kerry, Dr Stewart, and all the doctors and staff, past and present, at the North West Cancer Centre, for the wonderful care, kindness and support shown to Daddy over the years. We will always be extremely grateful for everything you did for him and for the exceptional care he received throughout his time with you.
A special thank you also to Dr Kelly, Daddy’s Respiratory Consultant, and Karen for their care, kindness and support to Daddy.
Our sincere thanks also to all the doctors, nurses and receptionists at Abbey Medical Practice for the wonderful care and kindness shown to Daddy over the years. Daddy always enjoyed the conversations and chats he had with you, and we know how much he appreciated the warmth and friendliness he was always shown. Thank you for looking after him so well and for always making him feel so welcome.
Our heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped us in so many ways during Daddy’s wake. In particular, thank you to Tonya and Ciara for taking care of the teas and for being such an incredible help when it was so greatly needed, and to Pauline for all the sandwiches, apple tarts, buns and everything else she so kindly made for us. Your kindness, generosity and all the time and effort you put in took so much pressure from us and was appreciated more than you will ever know.
A special thank you also to Brónach McMonagle for all her help and support, including organising the marquee and helping us with all the things that were needed, from teas and coffees to biscuits, teabags and everything in between.
A very special and personal thank you to Francesca Kelly for her incredible support, kindness and understanding, particularly throughout Daddy’s final months. Her understanding and compassion towards our family during such a difficult time meant more to us than words can say and will always be remembered.
Our sincere thanks to Villa Café – Café in the Park, St Columb’s Park, and Avenue 17 for so kindly supplying sandwiches for Daddy’s wake and for the kindness and support shown to our family. Your generosity and thoughtfulness were greatly appreciated and meant so much to us at such a difficult time.
Our sincere thanks to Ebrington Dental for going out of their way to ensure Daddy had his teeth in time for his funeral. It was something that was very important to us as a family, and we are so grateful for the effort and kindness shown to us.
Thank you also to Martin at Pennyburn Shoe Repairs for making sure Daddy’s shoes were beautifully polished and ready for him. These may seem like small things to others, but to us, every act of kindness shown in preparing Daddy for his final journey meant so much.
We would also like to express our heartfelt thanks to everyone at Chest, Heart & Stroke for the friendship, support and kindness shown to Daddy over the past number of years. The friendships he made and the wonderful people he met through the group became such an important part of his life and, in turn, touched all of our lives too. We will always be grateful for the friendship, laughter and support you gave Daddy, and for the kindness you have continued to show our family.
We would also like to thank everyone at Creggan Men’s Club, which Daddy loved being a part of. He thoroughly enjoyed his time there and the friendship and company of everyone he met. Thank you for the many happy times and memories you gave him; they meant so much to Daddy and to us as a family.
We would also like to extend a very special thank you to everyone at Brooke Park Bowling Club, where Daddy loved spending time watching the bowling. He loved going up and enjoyed the company and the coffee, and we are grateful to everyone there for always looking out for him and making him feel so welcome.
Our heartfelt thanks to Fr Mongan for the beautiful and personal celebration of Daddy’s Funeral Mass. The warmth and personal touches in his homily captured Daddy so wonderfully and brought great comfort to us as a family. We will always be grateful for the care and thought he put into making Daddy’s Mass so special.
A very special thank you to Sinead Burnside for her beautiful singing, and to Thomas and Isabel for accompanying her with the music. The singing and music were absolutely beautiful and brought everything together so perfectly, making Daddy’s Funeral Mass even more special and memorable for us all.
Finally, our deepest thanks to James, Sean and everyone at Carr Funeral Directors for the exceptional care, dignity and compassion shown to Daddy and to our entire family from beginning to end. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and every detail was handled with such respect and professionalism. Seeing Daddy looking so peaceful and so like himself meant so much to us as a family and gave us great comfort at such a difficult time. The dignity, guidance and support shown to our family throughout everything was outstanding, and we will always be truly grateful for the care they gave Daddy on his final journey.
We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to the gravediggers for preparing Daddy’s final resting place with such care and respect.
As it would be impossible to thank everyone individually, we hope that this acknowledgement will be accepted as a sincere expression of our family’s heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported us, attended Daddy’s wake and funeral, sent Mass and sympathy cards, flowers and messages, or showed their kindness in any way. Your support and thoughtfulness during such a difficult time have meant more to us than words can express.
A Holy Mass will be offered for your intentions.
James’s Month’s Mind Mass will be celebrated in the Long Tower Chapel on Sunday, 30th August at 12 noon.
