Month's Mind Mass / Acknowledgement

John Columba McCALLION

The family of John Columba McCallion would like to acknowledge and gratefully thank all those who supported and expressed their condolences on the loss of a dear husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

We would like to sincerely thank all those who took the time to visit and chat with John during the years in which he was confined to his home. This is deeply and fondly appreciated and remembered, as this meant so much to John and his family.

To the family, friends and neighbours new and old who were there to support, comfort and share stories during John’s final days in the hospital and throughout the wake, we are eternally thankful. To those who lined the street outside John’s home at Rossnagalliagh, who came to the funeral mass or watched online and those who stood at the graveside to pay their respects for John’s final farewell, we wish to convey our deepest gratitude.

To those who sent floral tributes, mass cards and sympathy cards, to those who provided food and spent long hours catering to those who visited the home, we are deeply and eternally thankful for the kindness and love that you showed for John and our family.

A special word of thanks for John’s brother Damian and his wife Bernadette, who came from Australia at short notice to see John in his final days and support the family during the wake and funeral; we are deeply grateful.

Our sincerest thanks to the doctors and the community nursing team at Quayside Medical, who took care of John’s health, and showed great care to him in his final years. We would also like to thank the acute care team, who showed outstanding dedication, professionalism and compassion to John while he was being cared for at home.

We would like to thank the staff at A&E, Dr McCloskey and the staff of ward 26, acute respiratory unit, as well as a special word of thanks to Gemma, the palliative care nurse who took care of John in his final days and showed great empathy and consideration to him and his family during this time. The family also extends their thanks to Eimeer Crowe and the occupational therapy team who ensured John’s comfort at home.

We would also like to convey our deep appreciation to Fr Michael McCaughey, who celebrated a poignant requiem mass that beautifully represented John and his family. We also express our thanks to Sarah and Damien, who sang and played so beautifully at the mass. Additionally, we would also like to thank Fr Daniel McFaul and Fr Michael Canny, who took spiritual care of John in his last days. A special word of thanks to Fr Gérard Mongan, who visited with John and Sheila regularly, offering pastoral care and friendship over many years.

We deeply appreciate the professionalism, consideration and empathy shown by Bradley & McLaughlin Funeral Directors, particularly Joe, who carried out the funeral arrangements with dignity and ensured the wishes of our family were enacted.

It would be impossible to thank individually all those who came to bid farewell to a great man, so we trust that this acknowledgement will be accepted as an expression of the heartfelt and profound gratitude of John’s family. We will forever cherish the memories shared through the years of a great husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. John will be dearly missed by his wife Sheila, all his family and his wee dog Lily, who brought him so much comfort and joy in his final years.
And we love you so.

John’s Month's Mind Mass will be celebrated at 7.15pm on the 7th of October, at St. Joseph's Chapel, Galliagh. Mass can also be viewed via the parish webcam (https://www.churchservices.tv/galliagh)
