John Quigley

Date of death 2nd September 2026

We mourn the death of our beloved John who left us on the morning of September 2nd 2026, following a short and devastating illness. On that day, and in the days that followed, we as a family were enveloped in the love and support of family, friends, neighbours and guided by the caring professions.

We recognise that support now, one month from his death.

Firstly, we thank Doctor Abdulkhalek of the North West Cancer, specialist nurse Sinead Molloy and all the staff at the Centre, for the chance they gave John and their honesty and integrity in how they took care of him. We thank the doctors and nurses on Ward 50 for their efforts. We thank Nurse Gemma Murphy of the palliative team, in particular, for her comfort and advice. We extend our thanks to the Strabane District carers who attended John in our home, Quayside Medical Practice District Nurses and staff and the nurses of Foyle Hospice. In particular, we thank the Marie Curie Nurses, our aid in the darkest hours of the night, who brought peace and reassurance to John when he most needed it.

We thank Bradley & McLaughlin Funeral Directors for their discretion and calm attendance during the wake and funeral. We thank Sean O’Donnell, humanist celebrant, for his kind guidance and the beautiful funeral service at our home.

John believed in people. He believed in community and the power of the working class. That belief was given life in the presence of those who came to the wake and the funeral, who made sure that we ate, who held us up when we needed to be held, who cried with us when we cried and laughed when we needed that, too.

As a family, we thank you all. We are still here because you were there for us.

John was, and remains, the best of men – sorely missed and loved beyond measure.

The Quigley Family.
