Joseph Valentine (Val) STEWART

STEWART, Joseph Valentine (Val) – late of ‘Ballyhowne Cottage’, Hawthorne Road, Monkstown, called home at 92 years, January 20th 2026, peacefully in Clareview Nursing Home, Ballyclare after a short period of illness.

Loving son of the late Joseph and Annie Stewart (of Lurgan & Belfast), husband of the late Grace Stewart (nee Lemon). Father of Val, Stephen, Mark and Lynne, father-in-law of Jennifer, Sandra and Jackie, and grandfather of Andrew, Heather, Hannah, Stirling, Christopher, Joshua, Jonathan, Joel, Jason and great-grandfather of Freya, Martha, Travis, Seth, Evie, Caleb, and Toby. Also, brother to Sydney (in Australia) and the late Murial McAfee.

Everyone welcome to call at his home Monday 26th January, from 2.00pm to 9.00pm.

A service of thanksgiving will be held in Cloughfern Gospel Hall – 187a Doagh Road, Newtownabbey, BT36 6AB, on Tuesday 27th of January at 10:30am followed by light refreshments in the Hall. A committal service will be held at Lurgan New Cemetery, 44 New Line, Lurgan, BT66 8TA, at 2:30pm the same day.

Val is at home with the Lord Jesus Christ, after trusting Him as his Saviour and Lord in his early 20’s.

Family flowers only. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to Parkinsons UK c/o S&J Irvine Funeral Directors, 31-35 Irish Quarter South, Carrickfergus, BT38 8BL (cheques made payable to the charity please; card payments welcome via telephone 02893 351540 Mon – Fri 9.00- 5.00pm Cash donations also welcome.)

Val will be remembered with love by his family and friends, at home and abroad. Sadly missed, lovingly remembered, expected to be seen again soon.

2 Corinthians 5:6-8 “Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord; for we walk by faith, not by sight. We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.”
