Malachy’s wife Maura, his daughter Margaret & her family (husband Shea, children Emma, Niamh, James & Ciarán), his son Malachy Jnr., and his brother Michael (Sean) wish to extend our heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to all those who offered condolences and support during our recent bereavement.

Thank you to all who attended the wake and funeral, including those who joined us online from afar, to those who called and sent messages of support, and all those who gave us Mass Cards and Sympathy Cards.

Thank you to the extended Shields family, our friends and our neighbours who helped us during Dad’s hospital stay, throughout the wake, and who have continued to offer us their support and friendship as we come to terms with our sad loss.

A special thank you to Dr O’Donnell and the staff of the Medical Centre, the acute care team who attended Malachy at home in the first days of his illness, and the staff of Craigavon Area Hospital, most especially those working on Ward 2 South, who provided exceptional care to Malachy during his illness (he spoke often of how brilliant you all are), and who provided such comfort, kindness and support to Malachy and all of us who sat with him in his final days.

Sincere thanks to the carers (past and present) from Enable Care, who provide such amazing care for our mother Maura, which was so invaluable to Malachy over the last number of years.

Thank you to Seamie & Carolina (Bert’s Pizza), Naomi and Declan(Annagher Services), to Newell Stores and all family and friends who so generously provided food, cakes and buns at Malachy’s wake. Thank you also to Jane and Paul Dillon for the gazebo for the wake.

Thank you to Fr Eugene, whose support and guidance were of such comfort to Malachy in the hospital, and who along with Fr Brian Slater, the sacristans, eucharistic ministers, readers and gravediggers provided for such a lovely funeral mass and burial. It was a lovely send off, one Malachy would have appreciated a lot. Thank you also to Grainne Maxwell, whose beautiful singing and music provided the perfect backdrop for the funeral mass.

Thank you to Kelly Ann and all at Kitchn Catering for the delicious food after the funeral service, and to Coalisland Fianna GFC who so generously allowed us to use their facilities. A heartfelt thank you to those at the club who organised and observed a minutes silence for Malachy before the promotion playoff against Pomeroy.

Thank you to all the staff and students of Primate Dixon PS and St Josephs College (especially those teachers and children from Margaret and Niamh’s classes) for the very thoughtful guard of honour as we arrived to SS Mary & Joseph’s Church for the requiem mass.

Thank you to Peter Devlin (M Dorman & Son Funeral Directors) for the thoughtful, dignified and professional manner in which the funeral arrangements were organised, communicated and carried out.

For all the rest of you, who we have not named specifically, please accept this acknowledgement as a token of our appreciation. Know that your kindness, generosity and support has not gone unnoticed and we will be keeping all of you in our prayers. The holy sacrifice of the Mass will be offered for your intentions.

Malachy’s Month’s Mind Mass will be offered on Monday 24th November 2025 at 7:30pm in SS Mary & Joseph’s Church, Brackaville Road, Coalisland,

St Joseph, pray for him.
Our Lady, pray for him.
