Acknowledgment and Months Mind

The family of the late Marie Kelpie would like to express our deepest and most heartfelt thanks to everyone who comforted and supported us during our recent bereavement.

We are profoundly grateful to all who attended Marie’s wake and funeral, sent Mass and sympathy cards, expressions of condolences online, flowers, and supported us in any of the many thoughtful ways that meant so much. Your kindness, your prayers, and your words of comfort brought us strength at a time when it was needed most, and we will never forget the compassion shown to our family.

A special word of thanks to Fr Mongan from the Long Tower Church for his gentle guidance throughout Marie’s illness with regular home visits, the wake and for the beautiful and meaningful eulogy and funeral Mass. We are also sincerely thankful to Fidelma Legge for the truly lovely music that added such grace to the service. We would also like to acknowledge with gratitude Fr Gormley from the Holy Family Church for his kind support during the wake, and Fr McGeehan from Steelstown and Fr Lagan from St Eugene's Cathedral for administering the Last Rites with such care and reverence.

Our profound thanks go to the wonderful staff of the Foyle Hospice, whose exceptional care, compassion and unwavering support to Marie and to our family brought great comfort in her final days. We are especially grateful to Dr Farrelly, Dr Devlin and Dr McIvor for their dedication and kindness. Also, a special mention of gratitude and acknowledgement to the staff in Altnagelvin A&E and the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service paramedics who were incredible in supporting Marie when admitted and overseeing her swift transition to the Hospice.

We would also like to sincerely thank the carers from Bryson Care and North West Care, who looked after Marie throughout her illness with such professionalism, tenderness and respect. The comfort you provided meant more to us than we can say.

Our warmest thanks to Kieran, Noeleen and the entire team at W J O’Brien & Son Funeral Directors, Eglinton, for the dignified, compassionate and attentive way in which they managed the wake and funeral arrangements. Your guidance, patience and care at every stage were deeply appreciated.

To the wider Kelpie, Bonaccorsi and Doherty Families – you travelled far and wide, and put your lives on hold to be with Marie in her final days. The true meaning of family shone through—connection, compassion, and love that does not fade. During one of the most difficult journeys any of us can face, your kindness, strength and unwavering support made all the difference and will never be forgotten.

A heartfelt thank you to the residents of Thistlewood Park whose incredible generosity, support, and presence during the wake brought immense comfort to the family. Your kindness and compassion will always be remembered.

The outpouring of kindness shown to us has been overwhelming, and the prayers, support and thoughtful gestures from so many have given us immense comfort as a family.

As it is impossible to thank everyone individually, please accept this acknowledgment as a sincere expression of our deepest appreciation and gratitude.

Marie’s Month’s Mind Mass will be celebrated at 7.30pm on Monday, 16th March 2026, in the Long Tower Church.
