The death has occurred of:
Martina ROONEY (née McCullough)
We, Rachel, Catherine, Owen, Clare and Conor, wish to express our most sincere thanks and gratitude to all those who sympathised with us during the loss of our mother, sister and aunt, Martina Rooney.
We would like to thank all of our family, friends and neighbours who called to the wake house, attended the funeral, gave cards of condolences, those who brought refreshments and everyone who donated to Martina’s two chosen charities (OG Cancer Northern Ireland and The Old Forge Surgery Annalong) in lieu of flowers and cards. Thank you to everyone who helped serve refreshments at the time of the wake, their efforts are greatly appreciated.
We would like to thank all those who celebrated Martina’s life through the beautiful requiem mass. Thank you to Father McKay for his prayers and attendance in the family home over the time of the wake. Thank you to Deacon Niall O'Hara for his prayers and support to Martina over the time of her illness and his heartfelt delivery of the eulogy perfectly portraying Martina’s life, paying tribute to the gorgeous, kind person she was. Thanks to parish funeral minister John Murray for his prayers at the house on the morning of the funeral. We are so thankful for the continued spiritual support Father McCloskey provided Martina, giving her great comfort over the years, especially during the time of her illness.
Thanks to Sarah McVeigh for her outstanding music which perfectly accompanied the service.
Thanks to Patsy, Stephen and all the staff of Down Funeral Directors for their level of reverence, respect and professionalism as they dealt with everything in such a graceful manner, doing all they could to assure everything was carried out to absolute perfection. We would like to thank Tom Edgar for digging the grave.
To all the doctors, nurses and staff of the Cancer centre, Belfast City Hospital, thank you all for your care and attention to Martina. Thank you to the district nursing and palliative care team that cared for Martina at her late home.
As a family, we would like to extend a special thanks to Dr Adrienne Keown for her outstanding care, going above and beyond the call of duty. The kindness she showed Martina was exceptional, and through the years, Martina called Adrienne "her guardian angel on Earth".
We would like to thank all the staff of Doris Chemist Downpatrick for their continued help over the years to Martina.
Thank you to the Ardglass Golf Club for the delicious food after service.
It's impossible to thank everybody individually. The holy sacrifice of Mass will be offered for everybody's intentions.
Martina requested that donations be made in lieu of flowers and cards. The final sum of donations came to £2520, which will be divided equally between OG Cancer Northern Ireland and The Old Forge Surgery Annalong. We know Martina would be so grateful for everyone's generosity, as this will make a big difference towards helping others that are sick in her memory.
Martina’s monthly mind mass will be held in Saint Nicholas Church, Ardglass, on Wednesday, the 21st of January, at 10 a.m.
