Philomena Gormley (Nee McNulty) who went to eternal sleep April 16th 2026.

Philomena’s Husband Brian; and her children Sharon (Paul), Claire (Gareth), Paul and Aisling would like to thank everyone for their support, prayers and kind expressions of sympathy following our recent sudden bereavement. We are heartbroken. The grandchildren have lost a very special person.

Firstly we want to thank Alan and Stephen the first responders from NIAS and the PSNI who came to the house that morning. Thank you for the compassion, dignity and gentleness shown to Philomena and to us at such a painful time.

Thank you to the many people who attended the wake and funeral. Those who brought gifts and mass cards. In particular thank you to our beautiful neighbours of Abercorn road; who have always been so kind.

We really appreciate everyone who provided practical help during the wake. Thank you to everyone who brought food including The Branch Restaurant, The Old Docks Restaurant and Dons takeaway. We will be forever grateful for your kindness.

We thank Fr Gerard Mongan and the sacristan of the Long Tower chapel for the funeral mass; a loving tribute of Philomena’s life. The singers Sarah and Isobel for the beautiful music. It was lovely having family help with the readings/ prayers & offertory.

We thank all our extended family, friends and work colleagues for their love, help and support. It has brought us great comfort during such a difficult time.

We extend our thanks to all Philomena’s past work friends and colleagues. She loved her Nursing career and it was so special hearing all the stories of Sister Gormley during the wake. We take great comfort and pride in how well thought of Philomena was; and appreciate all the tributes.

We must also acknowledge the many generous donations to Foyle Search & Rescue in lieu of flowers.

We are lost for words when it comes to thanking McLaughlin Funeral Directors. Deborah, Seamus Eugene and John have been outstanding. A tremendous source of help for us all. Their professionalism is exemplary.

Philomena was an amazing wife, mammy, granny. She meant everything to us. Life feels very different now. She will always be in our hearts and never forgotten.

As it is impossible to thank everyone individually please accept this acknowledgment as a token of our deepest gratitude.

Philomena’s Month Mind Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday 3rd June in Long Tower Chapel, Derry at 19:30.
